Sustain Sharing Event
Join us for our Inaugural SUSTAIN Knowledge Sharing Event on August 18th at Echen Hall!
10:00 am to 4:00pm
SUSTAIN – Supporting Unique Systems of Traditional and Indigenous Nutrition – is a 12-month, Indigenous-led initiative rooted in food sovereignty, traditional knowledge, and community empowerment. SUSTAIN is designed to revitalize Indigenous food systems, promote sustainable local food production, and foster intergenerational learning that honors our ancestral teachings.
SUSTAIN directly aligns with the goals of the New Relationship Trust’s Indigenous Food Sovereignty and Food Security Grant, and seeks to:
- Revitalize traditional harvesting, preservation, and food preparation practices through knowledge-sharing events led by elders and knowledge keepers
- Empower youth through culinary and knowledge contests.
- Develop long-term food infrastructure, like greenhouses and meat processing facilities, through exposure to successful Indigenous-led models
- Promote sustainable, culturally appropriate food access and security - Support community-driven leadership, entrepreneurship, and economic opportunity
